Its Showtime!

Its hard to believe that we are so close to Christmas!

This year has flown by. The team at Our Feathered Nest is made up of two generations of mothers and grandmothers, and even we older girls keep a pretty full schedule.  In an effort to be level headed and responsible, we all decided that this year we would take a break and not do the show.  But who wants to be level headed?!  Thats a terrible thing to call a lady.  As the seasons changed and fall approached we all were so heart sick about not doing the show that we caved and set new dates and away we flew to catch up !  A creative storm set in and we are almost ready for show time.
We have lovely, fresh greenery, snowglobes, paper crafts, paintings, Paper mache, Queen Bee Vintage Jewelry, holiday finery and folly,
great food to sample, and good conversation!

All of this goodness is packed into one weekend this year.  Make sure you get there early and bring a friend.  We are so excited to share our creations with you.

 Come see Our Feathered Nest.

All thats left of Christmas

It never fails to amaze me, that for all the build up and work that goes into making Christmas a special, unforgettable day- in the end, its just a day.   Like these cookies, we enjoy it and its gone.  I only make these cookies at Christmas because they are so much work.  By the time Im done Im surrounded by dirty dishes and food coloring messes. Yet year after year the desire to do special things to delight my family pulls me into more projects, messes, glitter and paint.  There are only 349 days left till Christmas and we dont have any time to lose!  This year we will blog about our craft parties and jury days for new vendors and crazy shopping trips.  We already have a few ideas on the drawing table for next year.  Watch through the coming months as we struggle to create something amazing and give you glimpses of new stuff and a little taste of Christmas 2012.

One weekend left!

Monkey hats on our little monkeys make us giggle!
The first weekend of our Christmas bazaar was so much fun, we're going to do it again this Friday and Saturday!  What a great sale we are having, so many friends and family came to the reception that the place was packed with laughter and great fun.

The whole house smelled like cider and sounded like Christmas was right around the corner.  We have a rule in our family that we cant listen to Christmas music till after Thanksgiving but we break it for the bazaar.  Our group fav is Christmas Portrait by the Carpenters.  A little old school cheer!

We are already re-stocking the house with fresh holiday finery and foolishness for this weekend!  Come and see what we have made and what we have found.

Last minute preparations!

" If it werent for the last minute, a lot of things wouldnt get done. "  This is never truer than this week at Our Feathered Nest.  Our show begins this Thursday night at 7:00 when we open our Friends and Family Reception.  Its an exciting moment when we open the doors for our loved ones to see the fruit of our labors.  Our poor husbands get to see what all those take-out dinners and cold sandwiches have produced.  Its not always easy to be married to the likes of us!  You never know where we will turn up.  This photo shows the lengths we go to in order to bring the great Northwest forest inside.  We are always dragging home something that our husbands say, "You're not bringing that in the house are you?"  We think branches are the best things ever to decorate with.

Jeanine and Danielle risking "life and limb" literally!

These little scenes create the magic of Christmas, snowy landscapes in tiny relief.  Just the right size to delight little children as they imagine what the first snow will bring!
Come to our holiday bazaar.

Some of the most enchanting and beloved Christmas decorations are made of paper!  We have patterned our paper mache figures after old world treasures. They are all unique, handmade and one of a kind.  We hope they will delight your family for years to come.
Victorian paper cone
This wreath made entirely of  music paper.

Paper mache figures, handmade gift tags, wreaths, hand stamped cards, paper crowns, victorian cones.  Any celebration is more fun when you dub someone "Queen" by making them wear a paper crown!

   Nov. 6,

 Nov. 11&12,
 9:00am-6:00pm

Look for  jeweled mirrors, paper crowns, tiered confection plates, winter paintings, hand painted signs, wreaths, paper ephemera, winter garden art, uncommon holiday adornments.
I dont know about you, but this time of year makes me want to hole up in the house and make something!!  Maybe its the weather or the kids back in school, fall is just about getting the house bedded down for the winter and the holidays.
We are all busy crafting wreaths this week.  Each one we make becomes our new favorite.  It will be painful to sell them at the show.  Mom used to say if you buy a gift for someone and you would rather keep it for yourself , then its a good gift.  Hopefully our guests will feel that way when they see these wreaths!  Maybe you will have to have two- one for you and one for a dear friend.
